Jason Globalme Project Assistant
Hi, my name is Jason, and I’m a Project Assistant at Globalme. I was born in Taiwan, but left when I was just a kid and have grown up in the greater Vancouver area ever since. Though I miss parts of Taiwan – the food is drool-worthy, the nightlife and street markets are ever-entertaining, and of course, my family – Vancouver has been an awesome place to learn, work, and live in.
My Globalme story is different than most. I went to Simon Fraser University (SFU) for a Bachelor’s degree in Business, and majored in Finance, MIS, and International Business. When I first graduated, I worked on a couple of different jobs; I was a sales person for a cellphone company, I worked at the CRA, and though I didn’t know it at the time, I also did some volunteering similar to the Project Management work I would do for Globalme later on. Two years ago, Globalme was starting a car data collection project in which they were looking for English-speakers around the Vancouver area. It turns out, my friend Jennifer was managing the project at the time – we’ve known each other since high school – and she reached out to see if I would be interested in helping out. That was the first time I “came in contact” with Globalme and it certainly wasn’t the last! I did some on-and-off transcription work, and was eventually asked to be a sound engineer for the car data collection project. Thanks JK!
After working alongside the Globalme team, I was pretty interested in joining full-time – and it finally happened summer of 2016. It’s nice to be officially working inside the office, and to spend more quality time with such a great group of people. Our leaders inspire greatness in everyone on the team, and they really give us the freedom to take on as much as we can. Working in such a passionate, supportive environment creates a genuine desire in us to put the best quality work out there, and to continue to learn from each other. To simultaneously grow individually and as a team is a rare and rewarding environment and I am very thankful to be a part of it.
My favorite project at Globalme so far was for yet another car data collection project – in Chengdu, China! Hanna and I headed the project, and we spent two solid weeks with an amazing team of people there. Another car data collection project was a fantastic way to end the year; it really marked how far I’ve come with Globalme. I went from being recorded, to recording other people, and finally, to managing. I can’t wait to get my hands on more projects, and to improve my skills as a Project Manager.
Here are two truths and one lie about me – take a guess at what is what, and tweet it at us at @Globalmedotnet!
- I have never been to any other province outside of beautiful B.C. in Canada.
- I have eaten pig brain.
- I once cut my hand by sticking it under a running lawn mower.
