Hello! My name is Sertan, and I am the Manager of Managed Services here at Globalme.
I provide technical oversight and manage the day-to-day activities of our software development and QA engineering team. We’ve been developing and managing solutions for things like NVMe SSDs, smart glasses, Tekken Mobile (with Namco), and Fintech solutions
I plan and execute projects, while acting as the medium between our engineers, our clients, and upper management (aka our fearless leaders, Hanna and Emre). This also includes managing the scope and HR of my own team. I ensure our plans run accordingly, and that issues are resolved quickly and efficiently to ensure the satisfaction of every client.
Sertan’s Story
I am originally from Izmir, Turkey’s third-largest city. I lived in Izmir until I moved my life to Canada to study computer engineering at the University of Ottawa.
After university, I stayed in Ottawa until I accepted a job offer from a top tier telecom company in the United States, and I ended up moving my whole life to California for two years. My engineering role at Nokia (formerly known as Alcatel-Lucent) gave me the necessary skills to accelerate my career and move back to Ottawa later on to work at their Canadian branch and complete a Master’s degree in Engineering Management at the University of Ottawa.
Finally, in October 2016, following the love of my life, I moved to Vancouver. Known for its sunset-framed beaches, unfurling oceans and towering mountains, beautiful British Columbia was definitely calling for us.
Though academics and engineering are a passion of mine, I live for the outdoors. Whether it’s snowboarding, hiking, camping, sailing, cycling, or scuba-diving, I try to spend as much of my weekend soaking up the fresh air and going on adventures.
If I had the opportunity of working remotely, I would be living and travelling either in a VW Westfalia or circumnavigating the globe on a sailboat.
Why I Love Globalme
Though I certainly learned a lot from working at big corporate companies in the past, such as how to handle and execute large-scale projects, communicate between many different stakeholders, and work on tight deadlines, I’ve come to a point where I want to use those skills to create a bigger splash—somewhere where I can truly innovate and bring change.
Globalme presents a perfect chance to make that change.
The team here resonates with a strong global culture, and is open to new and innovative work. My role as the Manager of Managed Services gives me the autonomy to work out how the team functions on a day-to-day.
It feels like a role created with my specific needs in mind; where Globalme and I met at the perfect time to fulfill each other’s needs. This opportunity will allow me to grow the organization and our teams, taking on more intensive and sophisticated projects.
Here are two truths and one lie about me. Take a guess at what is what, and tweet it at us at @Globalmedotnet!
- I was scared of sharks a couple of years ago until I swam into a feeding frenzy of 25+ sharks
- I have to provide an alternative name to Starbucks’ baristas since they have spelled it as “Satan” a couple of times
